Payday Super – Are You Ready?

From 1 July 2026, all employers, regardless of size, will be legally required to pay their employee’s Superannuation Guarantee (SG) when they pay the employee’s wages. All SG payments will need to be received by your employee’s superannuation fund within 7 business days; a 20 business day exception can apply for the first contribution made to new employees.

No longer will employers be able to pay the SG quarterly, or as in some cases, monthly.

You will be required to report your super liabilities at the same time as you report the qualifying earnings for your employees via Single Touch Payroll (STP).

To ensure you are set up to pay the SG as required, you will need to set your payroll program up to calculate the SG for each individual pay cycle.

What This Means for Your Business

The shift to Payday Super is one of the biggest changes to employer superannuation obligations in recent years. To stay compliant from 1 July 2026 you will need to:

  • Pay the Superannuation Guarantee at the same time as wages, not quarterly or monthly
  • Ensure all SG payments reach the employee’s super fund within 7 business days (20 business days for the first contribution to a new employee)
  • Report super liabilities through Single Touch Payroll (STP) on every pay run
  • Configure your payroll program to calculate the SG for each individual pay cycle
  • Review cashflow, payroll cycles and processes well before the 1 July 2026 start date
